Exhibition Dates: June 30 – August 30 - 2025
Location: Summer & Grace Gallery, Oakville, Ontario
Summer & Grace Gallery invites artists from across the country to submit original works for Made in Canada: The Flag That Connects Us All — a group exhibition that explores the Canadian flag as a symbol of place, memory, and identity.
We are seeking thoughtful, visually compelling works that incorporate the flag in a way that feels meaningful to you. Whether through quiet symbolism or bold expression, we encourage submissions that reflect your personal voice and artistic style. The flag may appear as part of a landscape, an urban scene, an interior, or in a more abstract or conceptual setting — wherever it resonates most deeply.
Think: the flag waving gently at your favourite lake, swaying against a bright blue sky, tucked into the background of a bustling summer fair, draped on a porch in golden evening light, reflected in a car mirror on a long road trip, or even imagined through texture and colour alone. The goal is not to recreate the flag, but to reimagine it as it exists within a moment, space, or story that speaks to you.
This exhibition also presents a rare opportunity to exhibit alongside Charles Pachter, one of Canada’s most recognized and influential contemporary artists. Known for his bold use of colour, signature imagery, and explorations of national symbolism, Pachter’s work is both iconic and playful — a vivid reflection of Canadian visual culture.
In addition to inclusion in the exhibition, three artists will be selected to attend the Powagen Retreat in Muskoka (August 26-28, 2025) — a private, two-night artist residency designed for reflection, inspiration, and immersion in nature. Artists will be treated to chef-prepared meals, peaceful surroundings, and uninterrupted time to connect with the land and paint in plein air in beautiful Muskoka.
The word “Powagen” originates from Cree and other Algonquian languages, meaning spirit, dream, or spiritual guide — often one that appears in visions. This retreat embraces that spirit: a quiet, creative environment where artists can reconnect with their practice and allow the natural world to guide their process.
We’re thrilled to host Made in Canada this summer and look forward to seeing each artist’s unique perspective.
